EXHIBITIONS / PUSHME/PULLYOU

29.01.2009 to 21.02.2009

Will French and Lauren Brincat present new work in the exhibition Pushme Pullyou that starts the 2009 Peloton calendar. The title's reference to Hugh Lofting's fictional character 'Pushmi-Pullyu' from Dr Dolittle, explores the couple's collaborative and individual practices and the similarity they shares with Dolittle's two headed creature. Dolittle's Pushmi-Pullyu is presented as a two headed llama in the 1967 feature film. It is a creature with one body that looks like the front half of two. The creature is literally 'joined at the hip' and there for struggles as the two heads work to control the body.
French and Brincat maintain solo practices that often share an ideological or thematic bond. Occasionally they present collaborations; Peloton will be showcasing both from Jan 29 until Feb 21.
They offer a collection of objects, performances and installations that take a wry, humorous look at togetherness as well as the usual themes of music, identity, politics and the like.
