EXHIBITIONS / PLAY OF IO
03.02.2011 to 26.02.2011
Play of IO is a series of works that are built around the idea of semiotic platforms of form, subjectivity and space. The work is an exploration of the chiasm between perception and language. The perceptual dynamic between the 'I' and the 'O' in Play of IO, suggests both the physiology and psychology of the subject. The 'O' in this work refers to the Semitic Ayin meaning eye. Therefore, the 'O' interpreted as 'eye' creates a tautology with the readymade 'I'. Meanwhile, the 'O' interpreted as zero or a physical void has the connotation of and empties 'I'. If 'I' is the subject then the work is a play on presence and absence within the self and it's surrounds. The physicality of the eye as an orifice evokes the boundary or void in the 'O' form. Furthermore, the sound of the letter O emitting out of the mouth and into the ears is at once pre linguistic, internally reflexive, coital and correspondent.
