EXHIBITIONS / CIRCUITOUS
05.11.2009 to 25.11.2009
Made in Paris, this body of work attempts to compare the linguistic and ideological rules that govern the art system with the linguistic and cultural rules that govern the relationships of social life.
CIRCUITOUS exposes art as a system of conventions but at the same time indicates which conventions support 'life,' the outside free space. It speaks about existence whilst posing formal questions but seeks to remain on the surface, playful, desisting the temptation to resort to theories or philosophies.
CIRCUITOUS is about the artistic activity of amending genres. A way of doing: a tone, a manner and a touch, a collection of solutions that constitutes rather than systems or methods. Objects remain obvious in their 'thingness' but are 'abstracted' from their nature. An oxymoron that may appear 'simple' but demands a real effort to go beyond what is evident. These works are propositions that express no value judgments but demonstrate the path of a thought and the snares in visual language.
