EXHIBITIONS / BLIND AS TEXT
18.06.2009 to 11.07.2009
The exhibition, 'Blind as Text', investigates the various coded operations of the daily newspaper. The concerns of the six artists range from information saturation and the role of memory, the covert strategies by which ideology insinuates itself into 'objective data', to the psycho-spiritual manifestations of how a world collective unconscious takes form within the tension between the reading of text and the image. Despite a proliferation of media platforms such as 24-hour TV news and the multimedia of internet newspapers, the printed form of the newspaper still holds a certain charge and sovereignty on the claim of defining world events in popular imagination. Taking the materiality of the printed word and the daily ritual of reading the newspaper, the exhibition explores our assumptions towards this ubiquitous information source, revealing new ways to review the implications of its presence in our lives.
