EXHIBITIONS / AEROPLANE HUMPING MACHINE
11.03.2010 to 03.04.2010
Justene WIlliams' practice is primarily photographic existing between abstraction and figuration. Recently it has extended to include video, which uses sound, lighting, movement, costume, photographs and temporary sculptural elements built specifically for the camera to bring together these two physiognomies.
The work examines ideas relating to photography, representation and how to make an image in a world saturated with them: looking back through history, examining how it is remembered, or forgotten through the photographic document to deal with issues pertinent today.
Using wastefulness seen and left in the world as a tool in my work, I try to confront the time and reality we live in and find a position from emotion and energy and then try to give form to this position, responding to the symbiotic relationship that exists between humanity and its material environment.
