Profile

My work is a process of constantly searching for innovative working methods to construct paintings. In earlier work I was concerned with pulling together and blurring many painting styles or languages which has developed a fascination with literally pulling the surface. Poured paint is manipulated during many stages of drying to form the final resulting image. The thick wet paint will form a skin which can be stretched, torn, folded, etc. The original surface of the paint skin can be altered or the fractal mirrored symmetries of the underside can be exposed like a surrealist decalcomania of pure paint. Once these surfaces settle the distinction between line and field of colour, pour, brushstroke, tear, and accident collapse into a single surface. A search for a structure without hierarchy. Entropy of pictorial space. For conception, perception and deception these processes have led to an experiment with latex and a page of wandering almost automatic text randomly chosen by slamming a book of Grimms' fairytales to swat a mosquito.
