Profile
Liam Garstang is an emerging artist who lives and works in Sydney. In 2008 he received a Bachelor of Visual Arts (First Class Honours) from Sydney College of the Arts. His practice while rooted in printmaking is cross-disciplinary, straddling performance and painting, with installation and video. Conceptually his practice explores the venerable tradition of ritual; his works are based on traditions and local history as well deep spontaneous emotional responses. Selected group exhibitions include Emerging, Gosford Regional Gallery, 2009, Print Big (curated by Alison Alder) Fitters Workshop, Canberra, 2010, and In Residence, Megalo Print Studios, Canberra, 2011. Forthcoming exhibitions include Familiar/Unfamiliar (curated by Rona Green), 3contemporary artspace, Melbourne, and the Freemantle Arts Centre’s 2011 Print Awards. In 2012, he will exhibit his first solo show titled ‘The old times were certainly the scariest’ at Megalo Print Studios in Canberra, and OBRAS Centre for Arts and Sciences in Portugal, where he will be undertaking an artist residency.
